Or limeade. Or orangeade. Okay… there are a lot of variables. You may want to read everything first.
This recipe is the product of having a child who prefers juice over water all day long. I’m a water-holic, so this is a thing for me. Begging, pleading and demanding doesn’t work with her (but leaving her water out and in-reach helps, because big bro encourages her by being an example.)
I created this concoction myself and then searched online. Come to find out, I wasn’t the original creator (there are many) and there are many ways to make it. I’m just sharing our faves.
The best part about it (besides the incredible benefits from the lemons) are the minerals. Depending on your source for water and the type of salt you’re using, a lot of people aren’t getting minerals as they should be. Table salt is void of them. It’s a black hole of nothingness except maybe added iodine. If you’re dealing with health issues, simply switching out your source of salt is a great start to bettering your health. And, quit eating out. Because restaurants typically use table salt. And, don’t buy foods from boxes or bags. Just buy a farm, a cow and some chickens and make everything from scratch. I’m kidding. Partially.
I’ve experimented with multiple sweeteners. You may love one and hate the rest. I don’t use sugar. Agave nectar/syrup has been a win, but I use it sparingly. Maple syrup was not good. I like raw honey, but it requires a lot of it to make the kids happy. I’ve also mixed agave and honey. Stevia powder has been the biggest WIN. I’ve found an organic and pure Stevia powder, at Walmart, no less.
And, depending on the salt you decide to use, you will add more Himalayan salt versus Celtic Sea Salt. You’ll just have to play with it some.
UPDATE: it has been discovered that certain brands of sea salt contain high levels of lead. I’ve learned that Baja Gold and Jacobsen Salt Co were safe.
(DO NOT USE TABLE SALT. You will break my heart and it will do the opposite of what you want.)

Electro-Lemonade (yield 1/2 gallon)
- 3 lemons, juiced (or limes, or oranges) – This thing helps a lot.
- 1/2 tsp fine salt – Celtic, Himalayan or regular sea salt. DO NOT USE TABLE SALT
- 1/4 to 1/2 cup agave or raw honey, or stevia (I use a heaping little scoop that comes in my little jar) – also optional, if you just like salty lemon water
- Water – spring water is best, filtered or distilled is meh, pleeeeease don’t use tap water
- Juice the lemons, add to your glass container (plastic leaches chemicals, even if it says BPA free)
- Add the salt to the juice
- Add sweetener of choice
- Fill container to your liking, I use a 1/2 gallon Mason jar
VARIATIONS 1: Maybe you wanna get all crazy with it – switch it up with lemons, limes and oranges. Mix them up. Mix them together. I don’t even care.
VARIATIONS 2: Add mint leaves, add lavender, add muddled strawberries or other fruits. This is your world right here.
If you decide to use a true juicer, be prepared for a stronger, more bitter flavor. Because you’re likely to get the membrane juices. They’re good for you, but they nasty. Unless you just like it. Then you do you. My eight-year-old promptly told me how terrible it was.
Enjoy this! If you’re like me, you will crave it and make it often.
